Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Mavericks made three shots in the first quarter, scored 33 points in the first half and beat the Miami Heat by 21. How? With a 39-3 run. Charlie Villanueva scored 20 points and the Mavericks held the Heat to just three points over a nearly 14-minute span in the third and fourth quarters on the way to a 93-72 win on Friday night. Miamis stale finish -- which came after Dallas started the game ice-cold from the field -- tempered what was a career night for Hassan Whiteside, who set a franchise record with 14 rebounds in the first quarter. The 7-foot center ended with 16 points and a career-high 24 rebounds for the Heat, who were without Dwyane Wade because of a hamstring strain the All-Star guard suffered Tuesday against Milwaukee, which could sideline him for weeks. James Ennis added 15 points off the bench, All-Star Chris Bosh scored 12 and Mario Chalmers had 10 in Miamis fourth loss in six games. The Mavericks snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Heat in the regular season that spanned their win over Miami in the 2011 NBA Finals. They also stopped a four-game overall losing streak -- their longest in two years. Whitesides 16 rebounds in the first half tied a franchise record and helped the Heat take a 45-33 lead at the break, which they built while the Mavericks struggled mightily from the field. Miami led by as much as 16 early in the third quarter. The Mavericks started their run after being down 59-49 with around four minutes left in the quarter. Twenty-nine of the 39 points were scored by Mavericks bench players, including 14 by Villanueva, who knocked down half of his six 3s during the flurry. Tyson Chandler, who finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds in the game, had six points during the run, as did Devin Harris. J.J. Barea added five, ending the run with a 3 to make it 88-62 with 3:03 remaining. Dirk Nowitzki and Monta Ellis finished with 12 points apiece for the Mavs, who shot 41.5 percent from the field, making 13 of their 29 3-point attempts. Whiteside was signed by Miami in November after spending two seasons out of the league and put up good numbers all month, averaging over 12 points and nine rebounds in January. He had plenty of opportunities to pull down rebounds in an ugly first quarter. Dallas missed 14 of its first 17 shots and the Heat didnt fair much better, making just six of their 26 field goal attempts for a 15-13 lead going into the second quarter. Whitesides 14 rebounds in the quarter included six on the offensive glass. Game Notes Miami shot 5-for-17 in the fourth quarter ... Van der Walt finished with a three-round total of 15-under 195 as the sun eventually shone on the final day of the rain-shortened event. It was his second European Tour victory. Englands Matthew Baldwin (68) and Spains Jorge Campillo (68) were tied for second. Even before the rain disrupted the first two days, organizers had brought the schedule forward a day to make sure the tournament did not run over into Sunday out of respect for the state funeral of Mandela, the South African anti-apartheid leader who died just over a week ago. "Its making you kind of part of history, winning the Nelson Mandela at this time when its sad for everyone and everyones mourning and tomorrows the big day," Van der Walt said, wearing a black ribbon on his cap. "It obviously means a lot and can be something that I can keep close to my heart forever." Van der Walt lifted a trophy that depicts an image of Mandela surrounded by children and also won a painting bearing the signature of South Africas most famous figure. The tournament donated money to one of Manndelas charities, a childrens hospital that bears his name.dddddddddddd Englishman Daniel Brooks had held a three-shot lead after the second round in Durban, which was only completed earlier Saturday because of the weather delays, but struggled with five bogeys and a double bogey in his final-round 76. Van der Walt, who was tied for second heading to the final 18 holes, made five birdies and an eagle to go with three bogeys on the Mount Edgecombe course. Coming in, he recovered from his third bogey at No. 11 by making eagle at No. 12 and birdie at No. 13. The South African also caught a break on the par-5 No. 14 when a shot heading toward the rough bounced favourably for him. Neither Baldwin nor Campillo could apply enough pressure in the final stretch, with Baldwin making just one birdie in his last 11 and Campillo crucially dropping a shot at No. 15. Campillo and Colin Nel on Friday became the first players to card 59s in a European Tour event, although their scores dont count as records because players were given preferred lies on the rain-soaked course. Frances Romain Wattel was alone in fourth on 12 under and South Africas Oliver Bekker fifth on 11 under. American John Hahn finished in a four-way tie for sixth alongside four-time European Tour winner Branden Grace.
